Our Home

The Laurels care home is a friendly and relaxed care home based in Huntley, Gloucestershire surrounded by beautiful countryside. Inside the home is bright and airy with plenty of communal areas for residents to relax and catch up.  We have 10 comfy bedrooms in our home and the residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms to their own tastes. We actively encourage visitors and have an open door policy for friends and family to visit, we know how much it means to our residents to have regular visitors.

Rooms

All residents have their own bedroom with en suite facilities including a toilet and shower.

Three of the bedrooms have a shared bathroom which includes a walk-in shower and a high / low bath and accessible toilet. All bathrooms and toilets have call bells and each bedroom has a call button next to the bed. A member of staff is available at all times day and night to respond to the residents needs.

The residents are all encouraged to personalise their rooms with their own furniture and fittings and individual items, although these can be provided if needed. Each room has a television aerial and a phone line if required and Wi-Fi is available throughout the house.

There is a large lounge / dining area where the residents can watch the television, listen to music, socialise with each other and participate in activities. There is a separate dining room which can be used for social family events and quiet activities.

Catering

Two qualified cooks ensure that traditional home cooked food is offered every day. There are homemade cakes baked daily and all produce is fresh and produced locally.  Choice is central to our food provision with menus chosen and updated regularly by the residents and alternative food options always offered daily.

Residents can choose to drink wine with their main meal if desired or fresh/iced water is always available in jugs.

Residents can choose to dine where they choose as we have 2 dining facilities or an outdoor eating area or a peaceful lunch in their own bedroom. Afternoon tea is served at 3pm and always includes a home made sponge or scones  or fresh cream cakes!

We are trained in delivering special diets such as Diabetes, Coeliac Disease and fortified diets.

Activites

Socialisation is encouraged daily with an activity offered every day. This includes armchair exercise, bingo and quizzes (with prizes!), pampering mornings with foot spas, manicures and massage, boules and darts and board games and puzzles are also offered.

All residents are encouraged to go out on an activity every week be it a shopping trip, afternoon cream teas at the local garden centre or a walk up to the local pub.

We organise trips in response to the resident’s requests which have included a steam train ride around the Cotswolds, a trip to the theatre to watch the ballet, cinema, rambling groups, afternoon tea dances and trips to the blue bells forest.

We have a visiting hairdresser who is a dementia specialist and also offers massage and spa treatments.

We have a visiting Chiropodist and eyes and ears can both be checked within the home by the Outside Clinic.

We have excellent working relationships with our local GP’s who are based in Mitcheldean – they will do home visits daily if required and the district nurses will come out to change dressings and take bloods etc.
